Edit Girls is a collection of career stories from women working in Post-Production. It began life as an Instagram page, founded by me, Kim French.
Edit Girls was born out of frustration at a lack of seeing these stories being told when I knew they were out there. Having started my career as an editor back in 2006 (I now work at Preen as Head of Marketing) I would have loved to have had this kind of insight into how other women started their journeys as editors, VFX artists, colourists and sound engineers.
I started by reaching out to editors that I knew to share their stories but it didn’t take long for women to start approaching me wanting to share how they started their careers and give insight into their working life.
It quickly became clear that this was a much-needed space and the response has been so heartwarming.
‘What a phenomenal idea for a page!’
‘So happy this platform exists!! I’ve been wondering where the post pro women’s platform is at!’
‘I just have to say, I’m so glad I found your page! It’s so refreshing and encouraging to see an entire account dedicated to female editors.’
Edit Girls has a lean towards featuring editors but we also feature VFX artists, colourists and women working in post production sound. The editors are from the feature film world, advertising, TV and more!
